Fact Check: Old picture from Pakistan shared with false claim on migrant exodus in India due to lockdown

Date:

Amidst the mass exodus of migrant workers in India due to the nationwide lockdown to contain the Coronavirus, a photo is being widely shared on different social media platforms showing some people with cracked and bruised feet.

The caption of the post read: “Won’t be forgotten, How #Modi govt turned it’s back on poor migrant workers.

FACT CHECK

When the fact-checking team at NewsMobile checked this post, we found that it’s an old photo from Pakistan’s Sindh province.

We put the picture through Reverse Image Search and found an article by The London Post dated October 1, 2018, titled ‘Real face of Pakistan’s democracy’ which featured the original picture.

The caption of the picture read ‘Children (Sajawalabad) in Sind province of Pakistan need help in treatment for their feet.’

Hence, it is clear that the photo is old and from Pakistan and has no connection with the exodus of migrant workers in India due to the nationwide lockdown.
