India encourages all parties involved to engage in constructive talks to address the root causes of the conflict.”
However, the political landscape is not without its dissenting voices. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi raised concerns about the effectiveness of the ceasefire, questioning whether it would lead to a sustainable resolution. In a series of tweets, he said, “While any pause in violence is welcome, a lasting solution requires addressing the underlying issues. Mere ceasefires without a commitment to meaningful dialogue may only serve as temporary relief.”
Internationally, leaders have also weighed in on the Gaza ceasefire. United States President Joe Biden cautiously welcomed the news but stressed the importance of a long-term solution. ” I welcome the deal to secure the release of hostages taken by Hamas during its brutal assault against Israel on October 7th. I’m gratified that these brave souls, who have endured an unspeakable ordeal, will be reunited with their families once this deal is fully implemented,” he stated on X.
While United Kingdom’s PM Rishi Sunak echoed these sentiments alongside the Welsh and Scottish parliaments, expressing support for the ceasefire, he maintained that it was not appropriate to vote for a ceasefire in Gaza. He said, “ We welcome the agreement reached overnight for a humanitarian pause in Gaza this is something that we have consistently pushed for and is a crucial step towards ending the nightmare for families of those taken hostage in Hamas’s terror attack and also addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.”
In Scotland, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon took a slightly different stance, urging the international community to remain vigilant. “While the ceasefire is a positive development, we must remain cautious and attentive to the evolving situation. Scotland supports diplomatic efforts for a lasting resolution that addresses the legitimate concerns of all parties involved,” Sturgeon said in a statement.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in response to the ceasefire, declared that his country would not stop fighting until all hostages were brought home. The conflict began on October 7 when Hamas fighters crossed the border, killing 1,200 people and taking more than 200 others hostage. Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry reported that 13,300 people, including more than 5,000 children, have been killed in Israel’s campaign. As the war comes to a temporary standstill, Israel has agreed to release 50 hostages from Gaza in exchange of 150 Palestinian prisoners during a four-day truce.
