Ishant Sharma found guilty, penalised for breaching ICC Code of Conduct

Date:

Ishant Sharma, India’s fast bowler has been fined 15 percent of his match and has also received one demerit point for Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct.

He was found guilty of violating  Article 2.1.7 of the code, which relates to’using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon his/her dismissal during an international match’.

The incident took place on Friday after Ishant gave an aggressive send-off to the batsman Dawid Malan after dismissing him. The action caught the attention of the on-field umpires and the match referee.  Such an action, in the eyes of the match officials, had the potential to provoke an aggressive reaction from the departing batsman.

Earlier on day three of the first Test, Ishant bowled one of his finest spells in Test Cricket. He scalped five wickets for 51 runs in 13 overs and dismissed Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow in a single over.

After the third day’s play, Sharma admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by ICC match referee Jeff Crowe.
