Football legend Lionel Messi has made history in Major League Soccer by becoming the first player to win the Golden Boot in two consecutive seasons.
The Inter Miami forward finished the 2026 regular season with 26 goals, securing the award once again.
The achievement was confirmed after Inter Miami played out a 3-3 draw against Charlotte FC in their final regular-season match on Saturday. Although Messi did not score, his goal tally remained unmatched.
FC Dallas striker Petar Musa finished second with 22 goals, followed by Nashville SC’s Sam Surridge with 21 and Vancouver Whitecaps’ Brian White with 20.
The 39-year-old also contributed 17 assists, playing 2,664 minutes during the campaign. He attempted 183 shots, including 76 on target. One of his standout performances came in August, when he scored four goals in Inter Miami’s 7-1 victory over Montreal.
Messi had scored 29 goals last season, making his consecutive Golden Boot victories another significant milestone in his career.
Inter Miami will now turn its attention to the playoffs, where it faces Columbus Crew in a best-of-three opening-round series. Messi is also in contention for his third consecutive MLS Most Valuable Player award.
