On Tuesday, the interim CBI director M Nageswara Rao was promoted to the rank of an additional director by the government.
Appointments Committee of the union cabinet cleared Roa’s name for the post.
A 1986-batch IPS officer from the Odisha cadre, Rao, was appointed as interim chief of the CBI on October 24 following governments intervention in Director CBI Alok Verma’s and Special Director Rakesh Asthana’s fight.
After his appointment, both Verma and Asthana were sent on leave with immediate effect.
In 2016, Rao joined CBI as the joint director but was not considered for the rank of the additional director in November 2016. In April 2018 also, when a review of this batch took place his name was not taken into consideration.
