Was cops beaten by BJP workers during CAA rally? Here’s the truth behind this viral video


Amid the several rallies and protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), a video has surfaced on the internet in which a two police personnel can be seen and it has been claimed that the two of them have been thrashed allegedly by BJP workers during a CAA rally.

The caption with the video read: “Cops thrashed allegedly by BJP goons. Pro CAA rally”

At the time of filing this report, the above video was shared by over 13,000 Facebook users.

NewsMobile fact-checked the above video and we found that the video is not related to CAA at all.

First, we analysed this video and checked it through the various tool, we came to the conclusion that the video was not at all manipulated.

As we can see the logo of newswire ANI throughout the video. We also did further research on the video with the help of Google tools.

This is what our investigation revealed. The incident took place in March 2017 when a police team in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur was allegedly attacked by some workers of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA. The incident happened after the police team stopped a boy for violating traffic rules, following which the goons attacked the police team with sticks.

Our final conclusion is that viral video is from 2017 and is not related to CAA, and the viral claim is misleading.
