EC gives clean chit to Bedi over voter ID issue

Date:

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Thursday gave a clean chit to BJP’s chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi with regard to her holding two voter identity cards having separate addresses.

The EC clean chit comes as a big relief to the activist-turned-politician as AAP and Congress had demanded a thorough probe into the issue alleging violation by the former IPS officer.

The poll panel clarified that Bedi had applied for deletion of her Talkatora Lane address (voter ID number SJE0047969) in New Delhi. She now only holds voter identity card (number TZD1656909) having Uday Park residential address.

The EC said Bedi had applied for vote transfer and it was a clerical error on the Commission’s part that she had two voter identity cards with separate addresses. The EC further said that information on its website had not been updated.

Bedi has mentioned Uday Park as her residential address in her nomination papers filed from Krishna Nagar constituency.
