FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be false.
Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, our team identified a YouTube video on the official channel of CGTN America — the American arm of the English language China Global Television Network, dated January 10, 2023, with a title: Nearly 50,000 people in a Muslim-majority neighbourhood of India are facing evictions and demolitions.
The girl in the video matches with the girl in the viral clip, too. As per its description, the video shows the state of the people of Haldwani after a local court said they were living illegally by encroaching on land owned by the railroad. This indicates that the video has nothing to do with the recent communal clashes in Haldwani.
Another tweet on the official handle of Free Press Journal, dated January 5, 2023, also carries a video that matches with the viral clip. It informs that the little girl was making a plea to Modi to not demolish their houses in Haldwani, but given that it was posted last year, it cannot be linked to the recent events.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming to show a young girl crying and pleading not to be evicted from her home after the recent communal clashes in Haldwani, is false.
