Days after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sustained a head injury, two images of her have gone viral on social media. In one image, Banerjee is seen lying injured on a hospital bed, while in the second image, she is delivering a speech with a bandage on the left side of her forehead.
Many users claim that Banerjee faked her injury and expressed shock, pointing out that while the injury was in the middle of the forehead, the bandage appears to be on the side.
A Facebook user shared the images with a caption: चोट तो माथे के बीचों बीच लगी थी ये बैंडेज तो किनारे चिपका हुआ है, ये कौन सा जादू है???😊 बंगाल का काला जादू 😂😂 (English translation: “The injury was in the middle of the forehead, but the bandage is stuck on the edge, what kind of magic is this????😊 Black magic of Bengal ???”)

With a keyword search, our team traced a Mint report, dated March 14, 2024, with a title: “Mamata Banerjee suffers ‘major injury’ after fall; PM Modi wishes quick recovery.” According to the report, Banerjee was admitted to SSKM Hospital in Kolkata after the injury.

We found another video on X, posted by ANI, dated March 14, 2024, showing Banerjee being brought out of SSKM Hospital in Kolkata.
Running a reverse search on the second image, our team found a YouTube video on the official YouTube page of NDTV, dated January 25, 2024, with a title: “Mamata Banerjee Accident | Injured In Car Accident, Bengal CM Narrates What Had Happened.”
As per the video evidence, CM Banerjee suffered a minor head injury after her car met with an accident while returning from Burdwan back in January 2024. In the video, she can be seen giving a speech with a bandage on her forehead that matches with the second viral image.
Thus, it is confirmed that Mamata Banerjee did not fake her injury, and the viral image showing bandage on the side of her forehead is from a previous incident.
