An FBI team flown to Malaysia to trace missing jet

Date:

Beijing: An FBI team has flown to Malaysia to join the search for the missing flight carrying 239 people, from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. Malaysian authorities are investigating the identities of two passengers, flying on the missing flight MH370 with stolen passports. The passport mystery has raised concerns about the possibility of terrorism, but officials cautioned that it was still too early to arrive at any conclusions.

Radar signals also show the plane may have turned back shortly after it vanished. A team of American aviation accident investigators, led by National Transportation Safety Board experts, were dispatched Saturday to Southeast Asia to provide assistance. The team includes technical advisers from Boeing Co. and the Federal Aviation Administration.

Interpol Secretary-General Ronal K. Noble said the international organisation would be examining the passports and said it was of, “great concern that any passenger was able to board an international flight using a stolen passport listed in INTERPOL’s databases”.

Malaysian authorities have been in contact with counterterrorism organizations about possible passport issues, acting Transportation Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said.
