Facebook to use AI to combat terrorists online

Date:

Facebook has deployed its artificial intelligence algorithms to combat extremism and extremist activity on the social media platform. The technology was previously used to block child pornography on Facebook.

The AI systems will be used in conjunction with human reviewers to find and remove terrorist content immediately from the social media platform. Facebook had earlier been reluctant to deploy the AI systems to combat extremism online as posts related to extremism are subjective in nature. Human review should help remove legitimate extremist posts before users can see them.
