New Delhi: Will Delhiites pay the price for the Arvind Kejriwal-Anil Ambani war of words, in the peak summer?
Kejriwal tweeted on Tuesday, “Anil Ambani playing politics with Delhi’s electricity? Whose politics is he doing? (sic)”
Reliance Infrastructure, which runs BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd and BSES Yamuna Power Ltd, reacted strongly. “Reliance Group is extremely disappointed with the Delhi Chief Minister’s tweet attacking our Group Chairman,” it said in a statement.
The Chief Minister has asked regulator Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) to revoke the licences of the two electricity distributors if they fail to supply power.
Justifying its stand, the company said while “bulk power purchase costs have increased around 300% in the past 12 years… consumer tariffs have increased only 70% in the same period.”
DERC must provide “cost- reflective tariffs to cover this increase in power purchase costs, and recover past dues of over Rs. 15,000 crore from consumers.”
