Kejriwal pips Modi in TIME poll

Date:

New York: BJP prime ministerial candidate is more unpopular than Canadian pop singer Justin Beiber in an ongoing poll for TIME 100 list of the most influential people in the world. Narendra Modi also had many more “NO” votes than AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal in the voting due to close on April 22 with the final result to be announced on April 24.

Opinion polls have thus far projected Modi as set to become India’s next prime minister post the ongoing general elections, but has polled ‘NO’ votes close to six, on a scale of one to 10 in the TIME survey. Justin Beiber who has faced major backlash in the US, with American’s even resorting to a petition to deport the singer, has still fared better than Modi.

The BJP candidate has over 62% NO votes and about 38% voting YES, with around 68,000 votes polled so far. However, a tweet showing the graph and the number of NO votes for Mr Modi has his fans swinging into action, with many voting YES and urging others on Twitter to do likewise.

The person topping the list is American singer Katy Perry, followed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal who had as many YES votes as her and fewer NOs.  Modi was at ninth spot, below popular singer Beyonce Knowles and actor Benedict Cumberbatch.

Kejriwal has nearly 87% people voting YES and just 13% saying NO. The number of votes polled, both for and against, were over 130,000, with the polling numbers changing every second.

In comparison, world leaders like German Chancellor Angela Merkel had polled just 9,763 votes, with the meter barely moving. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had 13,000 votes polled, Chinese President Xi Jinping 7,777 and even Microsoft founder and the world’s richest person Bill Gates had polled 13,730 votes.
