The floor of the ocean our trash can

Date:

Azores: A survey led by the University of Azores involving 15 other organisations across Europe, has found an alarming amount of garbage on the sea floor. Going as deep as 4.5 km, the seabed is strewn with cans of coke and plastic junk of all kind.

Humanities’ destructive nature has endangered all life on earth as we know it. Humans dump about 6.4 million tonnes of litter into the ocean, disrupting and destroying marine life and habitat.

The scientists collected about 600 samples from 32 sites and each site surveyed was littered with garbage, as far as 2000 km from land. Plastic makes up for 41% of the garbage and fishing equipment, metals, clothes etc. make up the rest. This discovery indicates the extent of damage done to marine life by consumerist human activities.
