Brazil police fire tear gas at Indians anti-World Cup protesters

Date:

Police in the Brazilian capital fired tear gas Tuesday to break up a protest by indigenous chiefs, homeless people and others opposed to the money being spent to host the World Cup.

Riot police in Brasilia moved to break up a group of about 1,000 protesters marching toward the city’s World Cup stadium, after about 500 Indians wearing traditional clothing scaled the parliament building and installed themselves on the roof in a protest they said was aimed at protecting their rights.
