11 dead as godown wall collapses in Thiruvallur

Thiruvallur: Eleven persons have lost their lives after a compound wall collapsed in Uparapalayam in Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu on Sunday. One person has been rescued alive while many are feared trapped. Tamil Nadu Fire services teams are involved in rescue work.

The 20 feet compound wall collapsed due to rains. The incident comes a week after an 11-storey building collapsed in Chennai killing 61 people.

Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa has formed a special investigation team headed by Joint Police Commissioner to help the ongoing police investigation into the Chennai Building collapse incident.

The SIT will have experts, engineers, architects and officers from the Tamil Nadu government’s Public Works Department for expert opinion and to help in the police investigations.
