Rane quits Maha Cabinet

Date:

Mumbai: For the second time in two months, Maharashtra’s Industries Minister Narayan Rane resigned from the Cabinet. Resigning on Monday, Rane said, he would remain in Congress as an ordinary worker.

Rane had announced his decision last week. He had been pushing for the replacement of Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan after the party’s rout in the Lok Sabha elections. But once, the Congress high command decided to back Chavan, Rane saw fewer options for himself.

Rane has been open about his unhappiness with the party high command for bypassing him for the post. He had reportedly been offered a chance to be Chief Minister when he switched from Shiv Sena to Congress in 2005.

The politician had quit his Cabinet post in May after his son Nilesh Rane was defeated in the Lok Sabha polls from Konkan. However, the party had not accepted his resignation.
