Skelton Schatz head to Argentina to reinforce Wallabies

Date:

Forwards Will Skelton and Jake Schatz will join the Wallabies squad in Argentina before the team’s final Rugby Championship Test next weekend, the Australian Rugby Union said Sunday.

NSW Waratahs lock Skelton and Queensland Reds backrower Schatz will link up with the team in Buenos Aires on Tuesday. The move follows injuries suffered in Australia’s 28-10 loss to South Africa in Cape Town on Saturday.

No.8 Ben McCalman will miss the final Rugby Championship Test against Argentina in Mendoza with a shoulder injury and will return to Australia to be assessed further and begin his rehabilitation.

Lock Rob Simmons and centre Matt Toomua also suffered head knocks against the Springboks, with a decision on their Test availability to be made during the week.

It was the seventh consecutive Australian loss at Newlands stadium since they beat the Springboks 26-3 in 1992.
