Most Popular Games on iOS and Android

Date:

New Delhi: The free-to-play gaming revolution is upon us, and while such games may be free, they are not always good. Most games hide their best features behind pay gates. But, many free games feel like cynical business plans in disguise and offer a solid amount of entertaining gameplay even without added content or in-app purchases.

So we sift through the millions of free-to-play games and pick the 10 best ones for your iOS and Android device.

For iOS

Asphalt 8: Airborne launched as an awesome paid game — for a mere dollar — and then transitioned to become an awesome free-to-play game without losing a step. This over-the-top racer is the best entry to date by a wide margin, and finds you whipping through an array of exotic courses with an intense sense of speed and loads of fun found within. And it looks amazing, to boot.

FIFA 14: Unlike the botched recent attempt to make Madden free-to-play, FIFA 14 is a legitimately great sports simulation that doesn’t come off as butchered by its business model. The free download focuses on the Ultimate Team mode, which adds a fantasy football-esque tone to match play, and the new touch-centric controls are satisfying. Additional play modes are available for purchase.

Flappy Golf: The game absolutely sounds like a joke game or a lazy riff on the Flappy Bird craze, but it’s curiously one of the most entertaining freebies on the App Store. It uses the side-scrolling courses of the great Super Stickman Golf series, but then finds you tapping to “flap” the ball to the hole. Try to do so in as few flaps as possible across the 50+ included nine-hole locales.

Heroes of Order & Chaos: The best-known MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) games may be on computers, but Heroes of Order & Chaos shows that the team-based strategic formula can work very well on an iPhone. In teams of three or five, you’ll work to topple enemy towers and soldiers in an effort to ultimately take down the opposing base. Gameloft’s mobile MOBA offers stellar multiplayer action without a fee.

Walking Dead: The Game: Setting a new standard for licensed games, Walking Dead: The Game delivers an amazing point-and-click style adventure experience, wherein you’ll make oft-brutal choices while attempting to survive the zombie apocalypse. It’s an episodic affair, with the first chapter included free (and spanning a good couple of hours) and the next four sold within. A season is also available as a separate app.

For Android

Real Racing 3: This is the best game for you. With jaw dropping visuals that demand a well-equipped Android device and realistic driving along very real circuits and campaigns, Real Racing 3 lives up to its name, literally.

Real Racing 3 features a continuously expanding roster of officially licensed tracks, a 22-car grid, and over 90 meticulously detailed cars from manufacturers like Ferrari, Porsche, Chevrolet, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, Bugatti, and Audi. Real-Time Multiplayer, Social Leaderboards, Time Trials, Ghost Challenges and innovative Time Shifted Multiplayerâ„¢ (TSM) technology allows you to race anyone, anytime, anywhere.

Clash of Clans: Clash of Clans is an epic combat strategy game. The long-await game is officially storming the Android realm, pillaging and raiding your tablets and phones. The time has come to unleash your inner barbarian. Build your village, train your troops and battle with millions of other players online!

Galaxy on Fire 2: Take to the stars in an unbelievable space sim game, much like the Wing Commander series. In Galaxy on Fire 2, you fly a spaceship in a huge game world, fight, trade and even mine for money. With superb graphics, easy-to-use flight mechanics, challenging dogfights in space and a pretty cool story, this game will put most PC games to shame.

Plants vs Zombies 2: This unique take on the zombie genre has won countless awards. Plants vs Zombies 2 is pure fun from the beginning to the end, and it’s free. Build an army of plants all supercharged with plant food to take on the zombie hordes. Don’t let the humorous graphics and cutesy characters fool you, this game needs some serious tactical thinking.

Angry Birds Space: Developer Rovio has done quite a lot of aggressive whoring of the Angry Birds franchise, but this space-based fork of the simplistic physics game series is really worth a try. For one, it introduces some new play concepts, with the planet-based levels requiring different tactics, plus the puzzles generally need a bit more of a thoughtful approach than the chuck-it-and-see of the originals.

All these games don’t cost anything to give them a try, so go crazy!!!
