Beijing: Russia’s President Vladimir Putin showed his chivalry, wrapping a shawl around the Chinese First Lady Peng Liyuan, during Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit’s event.
Putin was seated next to Liyuan while President Xi Jinping sat talking to the US President Barack Obama.
After a brief exchange with the first lady, Putin abruptly stood up, grasped the shawl and wrapped it around Peng, who had stood up to politely accept the gesture.
She, however, quickly slipped it off and put on a black coat offered by her own attendant.
The incident was broadcast on state broadcaster CCTV and spread online as a forwarded video.
But censors soon kicked into action, pulling it off all sites, reflecting the intense control authorities exert over any material about top leaders.
Putin is regarded by many Chinese ladies as a gallant and macho figure.
