Karachi: Appeal to put to ban on the exhibition of Indian film ‘Haider’ in Pakistan has been rejected by the Lahore High Court.
The petitioner, Iftikhar Ahmad, stated that the Shahid Kapoor starrer film not only defamed Pakistan army, but was against the beliefs of their country and two-nation theory, and even featured some offensive scenes, the Dawn reported.
However, the court dismissed the petition, and asked Ahmad to forward his plea to the censor board first.
Apart from Shahid, Tabu, Kay Kay Menon and Shradha Kapoor are in key roles in the film. The film is set in the Kashmir of 1995 when militancy was at its peak.
Haider was released on October 2 with ‘Bang Bang’. The film also won the People’s Choice Award in the Mondo Genre (world genre) at the ninth edition of Rome Film Festival.
Earlier, Pakistan had banned the release of Salman Khan starrer ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ and Saif Ali Khan starrer ‘Agent Vinod’, because it had references to India’s external intelligence agency RAW.
