Indias Big Fat Bollywood Wedding

Date:

Hyderabad: Right now, Hyderabad is the epicentre of one big, fat Indian wedding. Two days back, the airport had heavy duty inflow of VVIPs, as several fans thronged the roads nearby to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars.

The occasion was a special one – the Khan family’s little princess was transforming into a bride. Yes, Salman Khan’s youngest sister Arpita tied the knot with Delhi-based Aayush Sharma on Tuesday and the celebrations fit the ‘Royal’ tag.

The Mehmaans

The Arpita-Aayush wedding is perhaps the most talked about wedding this year. Even though the bride herself isn’t from the film industry, yet she comes from one of the most powerful families in the business. Naturally, the guest list had to be as fat as the speculations were. From Salman’s latest ex-girlfriend Katrina, who also happens to be a close friend of Arpita, to his previous ex girlfriend Sangeeta Bijlani, the list was interesting, too. Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, Priyanka Chopra, Kabir Khan and wife Mini Mathur, Riteish Deshmukh, Karan Johar, Honey Singh and Mika Singh joined the fun.

The Naach Gaana

Hyderabad’s Falaknuma Palace was bustling with fervour. From song and dance to colour and bling, from glamour and glitz to rituals and revelry, the Falaknuma palace saw a fairytale unfold, with the who’s who marking their attendance.

From bollywood performances by family members including Helen and Malaika, to artist troupes from Rajasthan and Mumbai, flown in especially for the post wedding reception, to impromptu performances by Salman Khan, who crooned Jumma Chumma shyly, to the bride’s father Salim who joined in the musical celebrations, the masti meter was on a full high.

All the guests had a ball flaunting their moves to carefully handpicked music that was dished out for all the guests who had arrived from different parts of the country.

The Daawat

Being held in a place which is known for its delectable cuisine, how could the wedding celebrations look complete without sinfully delicious Deccan cuisine. Calorie consciousness went flying out of the window when the dishes were laid out to be devoured by the guests, Dum Biriyani, Kurbaani ka Meetha, Haleem were the trademark dishes prepared to the delight of the guestlist. The wedding cake was baked by celebrity baker Pooja Dhingra of Le 15 Patisserie and the 150-kilo cake had a dedicated team working on its beautiful design.

The Riwaaz

The rituals were performed as per Punjabi culture. The Royal wedding started off with a traditional ‘baraat’ at 4:30 pm on Tuesday, with the father and the brothers participating with full enthusiasm. Apart from the song and dance, the speciality was the fact that it included horses and two bands, one from Delhi and one from Hyderabad. Once the baraat was ushered into the venue, the ‘jaimala’ and ‘pheres’ took place. This was followed by alavish dinner and a post wedding lunch on Wednesday.

The venue was completely cordoned off thanks to the many VVIPs inside and even the receptionists and other staff was given strict instructions not to divulge any information about the wedding to anyone, including people from the press. However, there are still pictures from inside the venue doing the rounds on the internet, thanks to the guests who didn’t shy away from tweeting all the fun that was unfolding inside.
