IITians take a leaf out of Munnabhais book

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested two students of IIT Delhi, one systems engineer of Infosys Ltd Hyderabad and four touts in a racket where students appeared for somebody else in the Nationalised Banks Clerical Examination.

During raids, CBI has recovered Rs 6.5 lakh from one of the arrested persons, which was to be paid to Infosys engineer for appearing in the examination for an aspirant.

CBI says more people may be arrested as investigation has just started.

CBI Spokesperson Kanchan Prasad said that a case was registered under various sections of Indian Penal Code, prevention of corruption act and Information Technology act, on the allegations that the accused persons, in connivance with some middlemen, were impersonating in the Nationalised Banks Clerical Examination which was being conducted on-line by a Mumbai-based Institute.

The exam took place on December 13.

Those arrested have been identified as four gang-members – Sanjeev Kumar, Sugriv Singh Gurjar, Hanumat Singh Gurjar, and Infosys engineer Tarun Uppal. The names of IIT Delhi students have been kept under wraps as of now as CBI sleuths are trying to establish their exact age.

After getting an information, agency teams carried out raids at a private institute Ideal Institute of Technology, Ideal Nagar in Govindpuram, Ghaziabad and arrested all the seven accused persons.

Prasad said all the seven arrested accused were produced before the competent court at Ghaziabad. While two accused were granted four days CBI custody, five were sent to judicial custody.
