VHP uses Kareena’s morphed image for ‘Love Jihad’

Date:

New Delhi: Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan would not have thought that someday she would grace the cover page of Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s women magazine ‘Himalaya Vahini’. The magazine claims to address the issue of ‘love jihad’ and talks about reconverting Hindu women who married Muslim men.

The report further suggests because the actress is married to Saif Ali Khan, and is a known celebrity—there might be others who will follow her example. The current edition of this magazine has Kareena’s picture morphed in such a way that half of her face has been covered with a ‘niqab’ (veil).

The magazine claims to address the issue of ‘ghar wapsi’ and stresses that reconversion of Hindu women, who are married to Muslims must be a part of the programme. Last year, Saif had in an interview revealed that he does not believe in the concept of ‘love jihad’.

Reacting to the cover, Saif Ali Khan said, “It’s ridiculous and not surprising… but these uneducated and bigoted ideas are the worst of India and condemning them is important”.

Women within the VHP loop stay in Durga Vahini from the age of 15 to 35 where they are taught military-style combat and a pragmatic history that promotes Hindu supremacy. After Vahini, they join the VHP’s women’s wing Matr Shakti.

Meanwhile, Vishwa Hindu Parishad said actor Kareena Kapoor can sue if she has objections to a morphed photo of hers that has been used by the women’s wing of the organization to warn against “love jihad” – the alleged conspiracy by young Muslim men to romance Hindu women and then make them convert after getting married.

“If actress Kareena Kapoor has a problem with this, the doors of Court are always open for her,” said Prakash Sharma of VHP.
