SC intervenes in 2G scam case; relief to Mittal 2 others

Date:

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Friday quashed summon orders passed by trial court to Airtel CMD Bharti Mittal, Essar’s Ravi Kant Ruia and former Vodafone MD Aseem Ghosh in connection with the 2G spectrum allocation scam.

The apex court observed the trial court had wrongly applied the legal principle while summoning Mittal and Ruia as accused and kept aside its order. The apex court added that the trial judge is at liberty to summon them at any stage if evidence is found on record.

Mittal and Ruia, whose names were not mentioned in CBI’s charge sheet as accused, were summoned in 2013 by the special CBI court saying there was “enough material” to proceed against them in the case.
