Michelle makes a style statement

Date:

New Delhi: While the husband, President Barack Obama is busy redefining political ties with India, wife First Lady Michelle Obama is wowing the world with her sense of style.

The world went gaga just seconds after she landed, flaunting a knee length blue dress with a matching coat, designed by Bibhu Mohapatra, an Indian-American fashion designer, originally from Odisha.

Even though he was unaware of  the choice the First Lady had made, his friends ensured that he could bask in all the glory. US first lady Michelle Obama had picked a silk dress from his Spring collection, which is being dubbed as a great choice all around the globe.

Known for her impeccable sense of style, Michelle Obama would surely have a rich wardrobe to show off after her trip to India comes to an end. Upon her visit to Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Michelle received a hand embroidered Pashmina shawl in ivory and turquoise colour from President Pranab Mukherjee’s wife, Suvra Mukherjee.

But, the list of gifts doesn’t stop at that. She is all set to receive 100 beautiful handloom sarees from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home turf Kashi. This Banarasi saree, which is on the brink of being tucked into the pages of history, will, for sure, add a splash of Indian tradition to her wardrobe.

These sarees, costing anywhere between Rupees 50,000 and a couple of lakhs have been parcelled to New Delhi upon the special request of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Handpicked, these sarees range from traditional silks to contemporary designs. These sarees are a beautiful combination of technique and tradition having the finest blend of silks, gold and silver zari.
