Heat rises in last lap of Delhi polls

Date:

New Delhi: With barely hours left to campaign for the fiercely fought February 7 Delhi Assembly polls, all three parties have pulled out all stops to reach the undecided voters.

In the last leg of campaigning, leaders from all political parties are leaving no stone unturned to woo the voters. Delhi on its last day of campaigning for assembly elections 2015, will witness rallies by Bharatiya Janata (BJP) President Amit Shah at JJ Colony, Madanpur Khadar and Sadar Bazar, rallies by Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, roadshows by Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi amidst several others events.

Eyeing to return to power in the national capital after a gap of 16 years, BJP is putting up a strong front, BJP has fielded its top brass to campaign for the Delhi polls including Prime Minister Narendra Modi who held four rallies in the national capital.

In the battle for Delhi, the only thing voters agree on is that the Congress is no longer in the frey. But when it comes to the title bout, between BJP and AAP, the results swing from a sweep for AAP to a BJP win. Kiran Bedi and Arvind Kejriwal can still hope as both can pull off a last-minute surprise.

With the poll campaigns coming to an end at 6 PM on Thursday evening, 38 hours before the polling day, Bedi along with BJP MP’s and Union Ministers are set to hold at least one rally in each of the 70 constituencies in the national capital.

Over the last one week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, with their high-pressure campaigning and the last-minute efforts of the Sangh Parivar activists, have managed to arrest the AAP’s acceleration in Delhi.

However, Delhi on Wednesday witnessed an action packed day full of political rallies as Modi, along with other senior BJP leaders and Union Ministers, held his rally in the South Delhi’s Ambedkar Nagar constituency to woo the voters of the national capital.

BJP till date has fielded 120 MPs, including a number of Union ministers in all the 70 constituencies of the national capital. Several party workers from Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Bihar have been camping in the national capital to campaign for the mission Delhi of BJP.

Apart from rallies, senior BJP leaders are leaving no chances to attack its arch rival AAP. Continuing party’s criticism against AAP, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday again posed a set of five questions to the AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal as part of its ongoing election campaign for the Delhi Assembly polls.

Sitharaman questioned the Aam Aadmi Party’s claim of giving houses to the poor and also asked about the dodgy funding received by them.

Sitharaman asked Congress and AAP, “Why both Congress and AAP have not mentioned even one little paragraph on North-East in their manifesto?” The BJP leader also lashed out at AAP’s promise of 5000 buses in its manifesto.

“Where is the proposal for reducing traffic congestion?” she asked.

The BJP has been posing five questions each day to the AAP.

Whereas, AAP’s senior leader Gul Panag too held a road show in the Krishna Nagar constituency of East Delhi which is contested by the BJP’s chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi. Kejriwal, Manish Sishodia, Kumar Viswas, Yogendra Yadav along with senior leaders too held several rallies and road shows in different part of the city and attacked BJP over the good governance model posed by it in the last eight months.

Amidst controversies, mudslinging and personal attacks in the high octane battle of Delhi polls the results of Delhi polls will be a surprise pack for all. Will Delhi be a win for AAP or BJP or will it be a tie?  It is quite tough to track public sentiment. The claims of BJP and AAP would only become clear on February 10, when results are declared.
