Obama calls Sharif discusses India trip

Washington: US President Barack Obama on Friday called Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and discussed bilateral and regional issues, including his recent trip to India, the White House said.

“The President discussed his recent visit to India, and noted the US supports all efforts by both nations to improve ties,” the White House said in a statement.

Obama also welcomed improvement in Afghanistan-Pakistan ties and noted appreciation for Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism.

Both leaders expressed the intent to meet at a mutually convenient time, the statement said.

“The two leaders agreed to continue to work together to strengthen US-Pakistan relations and advance our shared interest of a stable, secure and prosperous Pakistan and the region,” the White House said.
