Power water bonanza for Delhi

New Delhi: Staying true to the promises made in their election manifesto, Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party announced a power and water bonanza for the people of the national capital after coming to power in the capital less than a month ago.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, AAP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced rebates in electricity rates and water consumption.

People who will be using less than or upto 400 units of electricity, will have their bills halved and those who will be using more than 400 units will have to pay the entire amount.

This plan is said to benefit 90% of the people in New Delhi, which roughly amounts to 36,06,328 families and will come into effect from March 1.

Manish Sisodia said the cost to the exchequer for the month’s subsidy will be 70 crore and this subsidy will continue till the CAG Audit. After April 1, when FY’15 will kick in, the cost to the exchequer will shoot upto 1427 crore for 1 year.

In terms of water consumption, Sisodia announced that families consuming less than or upto 20,000 litres of water for day-to-day use and sewage for a month will not have to pay any amount.

Roughly 13,31,000 families will benefit from this subsidy which will cost the exchequer 20 crore for one month and Rs 250 crore for a year.
