Google rolls out 5.1 update to Android Lollipop

Date:

London: Google rolled out its first major update to Android 5.0 Lollipop to supported devices including Motorola’s Nexus 6 and HTC’s Nexus 9.

Google said in a blog post that the update version 5.1 will improve stability and performance and offer a few new features like support for multiple SIM cards, Device Protection and high definition (HD) voice on compatible phones.

The Device Protection feature is Google’s answer to Apple’s Activation Lock and works on the same anti-theft idea. It basically makes stolen phones “useless” to whoever took it.

The feature will keep your stolen device locked unless you sign in with your Google account, even if someone resets your device to factory settings.

The update is expected to address the random glitches and bugs faced by Android Lollipop occasionally.
