Charlie Sheen faces backlash after racist Obama tweet

Date:

Washington: Former ‘Two and a Half Men’ star Charlie Sheen has been slammed after he posted a racist tweet against US President Barack Obama for not attending a soldier’s funeral.

Sheen, who suffered an infamous meltdown in 2011 that led to his firing from Two and a Half Men, was apparently upset that the President filled out a bracket for the NCAA basketball tournament, instead of attending a soldier’s funeral.

The 49-year-old actor called Obama “Barry Satera Kenya”.

Barry Satera Kenya you won’t attend a soldier’s funeral across the street that you killed yet you have time for brackets? Sad,” Sheen tweeted.

Barry Satera Kenya refers to Obama’s African heritage, as his father Barack Obama Senior came from Rachyuonyo District in Kenya even though Obama himself was born in Hawaii. The meaning of word “Satera”, however, has been still left unexplained.

Sheen’s anger over the soldier’s funeral appears to be a reference to Major General Harold Greene, a two-star general killed in Afghanistan. The US rightwing media has repeatedly claimed that the Obama administration ignored Greene’s funeral when, in fact, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel was in attendance.

However, his accusation that the funeral had been ignored by the administration was incorrect since the ceremony was attended by the US Defence Secretary, Chuck Hagel.

The tweet sparked an outburst from other Twitter users. One of the comments from a user who responded to Sheen’s tweet read, “He can’t attend every funeral, grow up.”

Others said that mentioning Kenya in his tweet was racist.

Sheen has a history of going public with his conspiracy theories. The former ‘Anger Management’ star once said he wanted to meet Obama to investigate a potential 9/11 cover-up. He also criticised the President’s push for gun control after the Sandy Hook school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut.
