Robbers held for fleeing with goods worth 25 crore

Date:

New Delhi: In a major robbery case, a gang decamped with goods worth around Rs 25 crore along with a truck from Delhi’s Kalindi Kunj area. The daring heist took at around 1 am on April 1.

However, all four have been arrested. One of them, believed to have been crucial to the plan, is an insider – a driver with the same freight company that operates the stolen truck.

“We have arrested four. Three more could be arrested. The truck was carrying high end Samsung mobile parts. If these had not been recovered then it would have badly affected the company’s mobile production. We are trying to find out who would have bought the stolen goods,” said Delhi police officer M S Randhawa.

The truck carrying electronic goods and machine parts from Samsung was stopped by the robbers who broke open the container and then decamped with it.

The truck was on its way from Indira Gandhi airport to Noida. As it reached Sarita Vihar in South Delhi, it was intercepted and stopped by a car, said police sources.

The police said the truck driver, Ghanshyam, sensing trouble from the white car that kept trying to overtake him, speeded up. The car soon caught up and the men allegedly beat up the driver and his helper before driving off in the truck. On the way, they disabled its GPS locator.

The driver of the stolen truck then flagged down another truck of the same company, which had been following at a distance. The police said the driver of the second truck, Sarvesh, appeared to act suspicious and had allegedly made calls that were traced to the site of the robbery. He reportedly broke down during his questioning and that is how the truck was tracked down.

The truck was transporting components imported from Korea, which included integrated circuit and motherboards for high-end mobile phones yet to be launched, the police said.
