New Delhi: Ace tennis player Sania Mirza created history by becoming the first female tennis player from India to achieve the world number one rank in doubles, following her stupendous title win at the WTA Family Circle Cup with Swiss partner Martina Hingis.
They beat the Aussie-Croation pair Casey Dellacqua and Darija Jurak 6-0, 6-4 in the match. Mirza and Hingis survived a stressful semi-final to reach the final. The pair beat Alla Kudryavtseva and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-4, 1-6, 10-7 in a rain-affected semifinal.
