Rajasthan Royals registered their fourth straight win in the eighth edition of the IPL, this win coming against Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6 wickets on Thursday.
In reply to the 127 posted by SRH, the RR outfit opened with their regular pair of Rahane and Samson, who played rather cautiously to take the score to 27/0 in 5 overs. They kept the scoreboard ticking, stealing the singles and couples, occasionally hitting the big ones, taking the score to 63/0, 65 needed off 60 deliveries.
SRH got its first success in the form of Samson, who was dismissed by Bopara for 26, bringing Smith to the crease. He couldn’t survive for a long time, as he was taken by Karnvir Sharma for 13, bringing Nair into the mix.
But Bopara sent him back for 1 and suddenly, RR’s chase looked in trouble. Rahane and Stuart Binny got together and at the end of the 15th over, the score was 96/3, 32 needed from 30 deliveries. Rahane crossed his 50, but fell to Boult for a very well-made 62. Faulkner (6) and Binny (16) finished the match for the Rajasthan side.
Earlier, Rajasthan Royals won the toss and invited the Sunrisers Hyderabad to bat first. Dhawan and Warner opened the account for the SRH side, but Dhawan fell to Kulkarni for 10 in the 4th over, bringing in KL Rahul, but the second wicket fell in quick succession, in the form of Warner, who was run out for 21, followed by Rahul’s wicket for 2, taken by Kulkarni. This brought together Ojha and Morgan and the score, at the end of 10 overs was at 55/3.
The duo took charge beautifully balancing the aggression band cautiousness, but just when things were steadying up a bit, Ojha was sent back by Tambe for 25, taking the score to 90/4 in 15 overs. Morgan followed suit, dismissed by the same bowler for 27, bringing together the pair of Bopara and Ashish Reddy, who took the scorecard to a paltry 127/5 in the stipulated 20 overs.
