Delhi ride on Duminy Iyer wave

Date:

Delhi Daredevils managed to shake off some slack and continued their winning spree, beating Mumbai Indians by 37 runs on Thursday.

After being set with a mammoth 191 to win by the Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians opened with Parthiv Patel and Lendl Simmons, who briskly took the score to 35/0 in 4 overs, but Simmons was removed in the 5th over by Muthuswami, Parthiv Patel walking back in quick succession, taken by Mathews for 28.

Unmukt Chand and Rohit Sharma got together, but Chand walked back in the 9th over, taken by Mishra for 14, taking the score to 81/3 in 10 overs, needing 110 to win from 60 balls. Pollard was the next man to take the long walk back, done in by Mishra for 10, bringing rayudu into the middle. At the end of 15 overs, the score was 120/4. The chase was further dented with three quick blows delivered by Tahir in the form of Rayudu (30), Pandya (0) and McClenaghan (0) in the 17th over. Harbhajan Singh and Malinga got together, but the match was totally out of Mumbai’s grasp. They closed at 153/9, with Harbhajan Singh being the last man to depart.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians won the toss and invited the Delhi outfit to bat first. Mayank Agarwal and Iyer opened the innings, but Mumbai tasted success as early as in the 1st over, removing Agarwal for 1, bringing Duminy into the middle. The duo batted like nothing had happened, taking the score to 43/1 in 5 overs.

Things quieted down after Malinga and Harbhajan took charge, the scorecard reading 65/1 in 10 overs. Duminy and Iyer broke loose, their patience being rewarded with a free flow of boundaries and sixes, with both the batsmen bring up their respective half centuries. In 15 overs, the Delhi side reached 137/1. Iyer’s outing finally came to an end when he was dismissed by Malinga for 83, bringing Mathews in, who fell after a quick fire 17, removed by McClenaghan. Yuvraj Singh disappointed again, he he was the next man to fall for for 2, wrapping up the innings at 190/4.
