Terrorists fire at BSNL employees in J&K

Sopore: Unidentified gunmen on Monday fired on the franchise office of BSNL in NorthKashmir’s Sopore town, killing one and leaving two injured.

Soon after the attack, police launched manhunt to track down the militants responsible for the attack.

From last two weeks, militants had been issuing warning to Telecom operators to close down their business offices in Sopore town and its adjacent neighborhoods.

After the warning some private operators running franchise of various Telecom companies had already closed down their business.

Locals said that militants appeared at Noorbagh locality in the town and started firing indiscriminately on office of Iqra Telecommunication that left owner of the company, an employee and a customer injured.

SP Sopore Abdul Qayoom told The Indian Express that one of the injured person has been shifted to Srinagar. “Three people were injured in the attack on the office of a telecom company. We have started investigation,’’ he said.

One of injured identified as Mohammad Rafiq of Pohru, later, succumbed to his injuries at SMHS hospital.

Earlier, militants had sent warning letters to the private owners who are running franchise offices of various Telecom companies in the town and had asked them to close down their operations or face the consequences.
