Another SAI athlete attempts suicide in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: A teenage sprinter undergoing training at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) centre in Thiruvananthapuram attempted suicide by slashing his wrist on Wednesday morning.

According to reports, the boy was rushed to the nearby government hospital from where he gave the police a slip and escaped after receiving the treatment. The athlete escaped while he was being referred to the psychiatry department for further treatment.

The athlete is said to be out of danger.

According to reports, the Sports Authority of India has ordered an internal inquiry into the matter

Last month, four women athletes had consumed poisonous fruit in an alleged attempt to commit suicide at the SAI Water Sports centre in Alappuzha. Three athletes were saved while one died a day after she was admitted to the hospital.
