Now Maharashtra’s medical woes begin

Date:

Mumbai: After the national capital faced a medical crisis a couple of days ago, it looks like the financial capital will follow suit.

Maharashtra’s medical services are most likely to be disrupted, as nearly 4000 resident doctors have gone on an indefinite strike.

Like Delhi, Maharashtra doctors have also listed 10 demands including regular working hours, better security and time-bound pay hikes.

The resident doctors met the Maharashtra Health Minister Vinod Tawde for another round of talks on Wednesday, but failed to reach any consensus. The doctors say they did not receive any written assurance from the government.

They are protesting against the government regarding their leaves, lack of security, living conditions and stipend issues. The strike will affect medical services across the state in government-run hospitals.

The strike in Maharashtra comes soon after nearly 15,000 doctors in Delhi had stopped work demanding more security at the workplace, adequate life-saving and generic drugs and drinking water facilities. The Delhi government had accepted all demands of the doctors and had asked them to come back to work.
