Terrible Tuesday for rain kissed Delhi NCR

Date:

New Delhi: Heavy rains hit parts of the national capital on Tuesday, bringing respite to the people of the city from the scorching heat wave. There was intermittent rain in the evening.

The rain brought with it familiar tales of water-logging and ensuing traffic jams in various places. Showers caused accumulation of water on the roads and slowed down traffic.

In Gurgaon, the highway was clogged and bad traffic forced people to walk home from Cybercity.

Some affected commuters took to Twitter to express their frustration. “We need boats in gurgaon today #delhirain,” tweeted a user. “Massive jams in Delhi & Gurgaon. One rain & our roads dissolve,” said another user.

Several colonies across the capital complained of water-logging. Geeta Colony, Krishna Nagar, Chandu Park Colony, Azad Nagar, Shastri Nagar and Rani Garden were some of the areas affected. Traffic was held up due to water-logging on the carriageway from Kishan Ganj towards Azad Market and from Anand Parbat towards New Rohtak Road.

The MeT department has predicted rain till July 10. Meanwhile, the sky will be generally cloudy with rain and thunderstorms in many areas on Tuesday.

The minimum temperature on Tuesday was recorded four notches below the season’s average and stood at 23.3 degrees Celsius.

Monday’s maximum temperature settled seven notches below the season’s average at 29.7 degrees Celsius, while the minimum settled two notches below the season’s average at 25.8 degrees Celsius.
