Dubai, a place which is already known for its tallest and unique skyscrapers, is all set to build World’s longest ski slope.
On Monday, Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum launched Meydan One, a tourism development project expected to feature a 1.2 km-long ski slope, an ice rink along with the world’s largest fountain.
The project will shield an area of 3.5 million square metres and will be situated between Burj Khalifa – a 829 metres- tall tower which is the world’s tallest tower, and the Meydan racecourse in the emirate’s centre.
The venture will be completed by 2020 when Dubai’s population is estimated to reach 3.4 million, as Dubai will host The World Expo as the first ever Arab city
Named Meydan One, the project will be located between Meydan and Al Khail Road; the development will also introduce the world’s largest fountain, capable of shooting water up to 420 metres high.
The Dubai One is expected to be the world’s tallest residential tower, and it will have integrated podium which will cover 350,000 square metres of gross floor area and include 885 residential apartments and a five-star hotel with 350 rooms.
Although, Dubai already has an artificial indoor ski slope in Emirates shopping centre, opened in November 2005.
In the upcoming future, Dubai has also plans to double the number of tourists who visit the place to an annual 20 million by 2020, this order was taken by the President, Vice-President and also Prime Minister, right after Sheikh Mohammed said.
