No kidding: cartoons or car-ty-phoons?

Date:

Long gone are those days when the results of watching cartoons were innocent laughter and sheer happiness on a child’s face.

Cartoons used to be educative and moral in the bygone days but no more are they good teachers of the children. In fact, the cartoonserials of these days are like the bad friends who teach violence and disobedience.

Cartoons like Tom and Jerry, Dexter’s Laboratory, Jetsons, and Flintstones etc. were educative and at the same time moral. Well one might say that Tom was a naughty fuzzy cat who always tried to hurt the sweet but mischievous Jerry but in the end Tom used to pay for his deeds. That indeed is a moral for the children that if you inflict harm to anybody, you will end up hurting yourself.

The same goes for cartoons like The Roadrunner Show. If one keenly tries to remember, Flintstones used to be featured just before Jetsons. While the former used to paint the scenario of how the Stone Age might have been, the latter used to aid a child to think how life might be in an ultra-advanced society when people would start living in the space.

Well, at least we can see that turning into reality as people have started booking land on the moon! The two shows might be completely paradoxical to each other but they used to paint a child’s imagination quite beautifully. Every single person has a role model in his/her life. In the case of children it’s often the cartoon characters. Thus, if the cartoon characters are not morally correct, the personality of a child gets affected.

A child’s brain cannot differentiate between what is morally correct and what is incorrect. The cartoons of these days like Kochikame portray a very bad side of the society, the content of which is very harmful for a child. The cartoon show is about a corrupt and lazy policeman. The whole packaging of this show is very attractive but at the same time very dangerous for an innocent mind.

It’s good for the adults as a humorous show, but children are not that mature to understand its bad effects on them. Talking of the bad effects of cartoons of this age on children, it is impossible to not mention the very famous cartoon show- Shinchan.

The most disobedient and naughty child that could ever have appeared in front of children till date is Shinchan. Shinchan is again humorous to watch but corrupts a child’s brain. The character teaches how to disobey one’s mother, how to cheat in exams, how to be rude to one’s mother and other such mischiefs. In fact, this cartoon show can be a new thing on which the ban loving Government of India can impose a ban on!

Cartoons are a medium to educate and build up a child’s personality. Imparting good knowledge through cartoon shows like Dora the Explorer is good for the consumption of children but cartoons like Shinchan are poison for the little innocent brains. Like every other media, cartoons should also come with responsibility. The makers of cartoons should be careful enough to not adulterate a child’s brain.

The cartoon watching life span of a person embodies the age bracket of innocence and thus cartoons should not only be educative and moral, but also innocent. They should neither be like Shin Chan nor as violent as the Ninja Turtles.
