Anti-minority dawn to dusk shutdown begins in Assam

The Asom Gana Parishad, All Assam Students Union, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti have opposed the move to shelter minority people from Bangladesh without valid documents on humanitarian grounds.

Guwahati: At least ten organisations have reportedly begun enforcing a 12-hour-long shutdown in protest against the Centre’s decision to shelter minority people from Bangladesh without valid documents on humanitarian grounds.

Assam Governor P B Acharya and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi have welcomed the Central Government’s decision, but Gogoi said it would have been better had the Centre consulted the Assam Government first before taking the decision.

The BJP and several other organisations from Assam’s Barak Valley also welcomed the decision.

The Asom Gana Parishad, All Assam Students Union, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti have opposed the move.

Several students union of Moran, Motok, Karbi communities among others alleged that Assamese people would be reduced to second class citizens in the state because of this decision.
