#SheenaMurderMystery: Cop says he was asked not to file FIR in the case

Date:

Mumbai: Adding a fresh twist to the Sheena Bora murder case, a Maharashtra policeman has claimed that he was asked by his senior not to file an FIR when her body was found in May 2012.

Police Inspector Subhash Mirge’s statement revealed signs of foul play were clear when a body was found in May 2012, but the then Superintendent of Police R D Shinde asked him to not file an FIR or even an accidental death report.

Sheena’s body remains were reportedly recovered from Pen forest in Raigad.

On September 7, DNA report of the body parts found in Raigad matched with that of Indrani Mukherjea. Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria had said that the DNA report “conclusively proves” that Indrani was the mother of the “deceased Sheena Bora”.

However, Maria was promoted as Director General (Home Guards), and Javed Ahmed was assigned as the Mumbai Police Commissioner with immediate effect. It was also said that Maria will continue to look after the Sheena Bora murder case.

And now, another twist has been witnessed in the #SheenaMurderMystery, with a suspense weather Maria will head the investigation or not.

The state government has sent a three-line letter to Maria stating he could continue with the probe. Now, the Home department has said it will only decide whether to bring Maria back in the case after a status review of the investigations.

“I have asked the Director General of Police Sanjeev Dayal to review the case and send me a status report. Once we get the report we will check if Maria is needed to guide the officers. We will meet the Chief Minister and accordingly take a detailed order for his return, if required,” Additional Chief Secretary (Home) KP Bakshi, said.

Adding that since the DGP had been busy with the launch of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) in Nagpur, the report was delayed.

Currently, the investigations are being carried out by the Special Investigating Team (SIT) headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Bandra division) Sanjay Kadam and Police Inspector Dinesh Kadam (Khar Police), both of whom are considered to be close to Maria, and have been part of all his important cases.

“We are doing well in terms of the murder investigations. We know the motive for the murder but cannot reveal it. We will soon file a chargesheet in the case,” a police officer said.
