BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmiya passes away

Kolkata: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Jagmohan Dalmiya on Sunday passed away in Kolkata, he was 75.

Dalmiya was hospitalized on Thursday after he complained of chest pain, passed away at a city hospital on Sunday evening following a massive cardiac arrest. He also underwent a coronary angiography.

“Mr. Dalmiya died of internal gastrointestinal bleeding and internal organ failure,” hospital sources said confirming the veteran cricket administrators death.

“At 6 PM in the evening his condition deteriorated and shortly afterwards he suffered a massive cardiac arrest from which he could not recover,”Cricket Association of Bengal sources added.

Meanwhile, President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of BCCI president.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also condoled the passing away of Dalmiya via twitter.

BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur on Sunday described the former as ‘father figure of Indian cricket’.

“Dalmiya ji has lived cricket day and night. Every breath he has taken was in the interest of cricket. BCCI has lost a visionary and a father figure of Indian cricket,” Thakur said.

BJP President Amit Shah also took it to twitter to express grief on Dalmiya’s death.

Dalmiya has not been keeping well for a while now and was not actively taking part in the day-to-day functioning of the BCCI.

Dalmiya took over the reins of the BCCI for a second time in March, after a gap of 10 years, when he got a walkover in the elections. But he has been ailing since then, and his health has deteriorated further over the last few weeks.

According to sources, BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur and IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla will reach here on Monday.
