Bengali film released on Gandhi’s 146th birth anniversary

Date:

Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary was today celebrated across West Bengal through various programmes, and a Bengali film paying tribute to the Father of the Nation was also released on the occasion.

Senior political leaders cutting across party lines paid floral tributes at his memorial here.

Governor K N Tripathi paid tribute at Gandhi Ghat in Barrackpore, a few km away from Kolkata.

A Bengali film ‘Babar Naam Gandhiji’, which is about Mahatma Gandhi and modern society seen through the eyes of a street boy, also hit the theatres to coincide with his birthday.

To commemorate the international non-violence day on Gandhi’s birthday, sex workers brought out a silent procession in the city.

Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee, a sex workers’ collective in Kolkata, organised the procession to protest against the alleged harassment and violence the community has to face from police and local goons.
