Argentina eye World Cup quarter-finals after beating Tonga

Date:

Argentina moved to the brink of a place in the quarter-finals of the World Cup with a 45-16 win over Tonga in Leicester on Sunday.

The Pumas five-try, bonus-point, win saw Joaquin Tuculet, Juan Imhoff, Nicolas Sanchez, Julian Montoya and Santiago Cordero all cross Tonga’s line.

Victory took Argentina to 10 points with one round of Pool matches remaining.

That left them four points behind already-qualified Pool C rivals New Zealand.

Tonga need a highly unlikely bonus-point win over the reigning world champion All Blacks in the final round of group games to have a chance of denying Argentina a place in the last eight.
