35 held for violent protest over teacher’s recruitment exam

Thirty-five persons were arrested today for pelting stones at police personnel and damaging state-run buses during a protest outside the BJP state headquarters to demand changes in the pattern and eligibility criteria of a teachers’ recruitment exam.

Police used “mild” force to disperse the protesters.

Several persons, including three policemen and a bus passenger, received minor injuries in the clash.

“The protesters, who were demanding changes in the pattern of Recruitment cum Eligibility Exam for Teachers (REET) exam, especially for Grade-3 teachers, assembled outside the BJP office and sat in front of the main gate because of which they were pushed from there,” Police Commissioner Srinivas Rao Janga said.

“35 persons have been arrested for blocking road and creating nuisance,” he said, adding that ‘mild’ force was used to disperse the mob in front of the party office.

DCP South Ravi Dutt Gaur said protesters pelted stones at police personnel and damaged two state roadways buses which were passing from the site.

“Three policemen and a bus passenger received minor injuries,” he added.

The agitators were demanding changes in the pattern and eligibility criteria of REET (Recruitment cum eligibility exam for teachers) for which notification is yet to be issued. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot condemned the alleged lathicharge on the protesters.
