Veteran Nick Easter’s hat-trick of tries ensured hosts England at least rounded off their desperate World Cup campaign with a win, easing to a 60-3 victory over Uruguay on Saturday.
The 37-year-old — who earned the man of the match award — was joined by youngster Jack Nowell, who also scored three, as England racked up 10 tries against a gallant but outclassed Uruguay side.
While England’s World Cup on the pitch ends, now the ramifications are likely to go on for much longer after they became the first hosts to bow out before the knockout stages.
