S’pore Foreign Affairs Minister to visit India today

Date:

Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan will hold bilateral talks today with his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj during his visit to New Delhi.

Balakrishnan will be in New Delhi to co-chair the fourth meeting of the India-Singapore Joint Ministerial Committee (JMC) for bilateral cooperation with External Affairs Minister Swaraj, Singapore Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Balakrishnan will also be hosted to tea by Swaraj, it said.

Started in 2008, the India-Singapore JMC is a regular ministerial dialogue process to review the state of bilateral relations, and explore new areas of cooperation.

The JMC Meeting takes on special significance this year as both countries commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and are working to elevate relations to that of strategic partnership during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Singapore in November.

Balakrishnan will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
