Revenue has tripled in the last seven years since Norwegian company Orkla bought Indian MTR Foods Pvt Ltd. Orkla’s focus on quality in the whole product chain, consumer focus and high environmental standards has created a brand obviously to the Indian market’s liking.

“Orkla’s strategic and technical guidance has transformed MTR into a focused and professionally run company with increased talent base and improved workplace standards. The company has grown more than 3 times post acquisition and is on a strong platform for robust growth in the future,” Sanjay Sharma, CEO, MTR FOODS, was quoted as saying by norwayemb.org.in.

“There is a higher degree of financial comfort in terms of managing operations and accessing funds for future expansion,” he added.

MTR FOODS have been recognised for doing business in a right way. In 2013 MTR FOODS were one of nine companies based in India that received recognition for their workplace wellness initiatives with new Healthy Workplace awards from Arogya World.

The Norwegian Ambassador, Nils Ragnar Kamsvåg, visited the production facilities in Bangalore last week.

“Orkla and MTR FOODS have managed to become a part of India’s growth story. They are an example and inspiration to other Norwegian and international companies looking to invest and do business in India,” Kamsvåg said after the company visit.

MTR FOODS started as a restaurant – Brahmin Coffee House – near Lalbagh in Bangalore in 1924. In 2014 it has grown to be one of India’s fastest growing food companies.

They produce food widely used in the Indian kitchen such as spices and masalas, ready mixes like Breakfast and Dessert Mixes, Ready to Eat Foods and south Indian snacks to mention some.

In 2014 MTR FOODS produced 41525 tons of food, with South India as their biggest market. They are currently the market leader in several of their food segments.
